Carlsbad, CA

Carlsbad is a city north of San Diego, California. The city lies along a bay on the Pacific Ocean just south of Oceanside, in a winter vegetable and flower-growing district. Carlsbad was first named Frazier’s Station but was later renamed in 1883 when its mineral waters were said to have been similar to those of Karlsbad in Bohemia, which is now Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.

After the Santa Fe Railway’s arrival in 1885 came the city’s beautiful beaches, which encouraged and promoted Carlsbad as a popular resort and vacation destination for people. In 1952, Carlsbad was incorporated to avoid annexation by Oceanside, which was its neighbor.

Climate

Carlsbad gets about 12 inches of rain on average every year. With only about 38 rainy days, residents get to enjoy nearly 263 beautiful, warm, sunny days. Which is more than most Americans as the U.S has about 205 sunny days per year.

Did we mention, Carlsbad does not get any snow! That being said, it is considered more comfortable than most places in California in regards to weather, scoring a 9 out of 10 on the annual BestPlaces Comfort Index. September, August, and July are the months residents enjoy the most in Carlsbad, as opposed to the cooler months like January and February.

Residents

Carlsbad has a population of 113,147, and its earliest residents were the Luiseno Indians, who settled in the coastal areas. The area expanded as new homes and businesses were built in the 1880s. The city had a big agricultural development of citrus fruits, avocados, and olives, which changed its landscape.

Residents know Carlsbad best because of its 128-acre family theme park, otherwise known as LEGOLAND. The city has a strong Italian and Mexican heritage, which you can see and taste in their food. Residents come here specifically to enjoy locally sourced ingredients and for the city’s many delicious restaurants.
